10-day-old baby handed over to adoption home

A 10-day-old girl baby that was found abandoned outside an orphanage at Kamaraj Nagar on Sendamangalam Road Junction in Rasipuram Taluk in Namakkal district was handed over to an adoption home under the Cradle Baby Scheme.

  The baby was found wrapped in an old cloth on Sunday. Mary Ammal, who runs the home, heard the cry of the baby and rescued it.

Efforts to trace the mother failed as the baby was later cleaned and fed. 

On Monday, the baby was handed over to the District Collector K. Maharabushanam handed over the baby to the Social Welfare Department.

Officials said that this is the 1,034th baby received under the scheme since 1992.
