10 lakh more colour television sets to be procured

The State government on Sunday announced that 10 lakh more colour television (CTV) sets would be procured for free distribution.

A decision to this effect was taken at the 21st meeting of floor leaders of parties in the Assembly at the Secretariat on the Omandurar Government Estate here. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi presided the meeting.

Till date, about 1.52 crore CTVs were distributed to eligible families in five phases. The government had procured around 1.63 crore CTVs, according to an official release. The decision to procure additional sets was in response to request from some district Collectors.

Among those who attended the meeting were Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Deputy Leader of the Congress Legislature Party D. Yasoda, Information Technology Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Chief Secretary S. Malathi and Principal Secretaries in charge of Finance, Information Technology and Revenue, K. Shanmugam, P.W.C. Davidar and V.K. Jeyakodi respectively, the release added.
