The Kanchi Taluk Police have apprehended 10 persons on charges of creating a law and order problem in the Orikkai area on Sunday night, during which the house of a Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi organiser was damaged.

Enquiries reveal that trouble began in the evening, when a group of youngsters entered a residential layout near VCK organiser David's house for a party with bottles of liquor. They picked a quarrel with those who objected to the open-air party and left the place. The locals claimed to have the support of the VCK organiser.

Irked by this, the police said the youth, most of them residents of nearby Thumbavanam, came back again to Orikkai in large numbers with their friends from Pillayarpalayam, Thayarkulam and Thiruparuthikundram areas, around midnight and attacked David's house. Vehicles, a car and motorcycle were also damaged.

On hearing about the attack on their party leader's house, members of VCK gathered at Orikkai on Monday morning and threatened to retaliate. They were pacified by senior police officers.
