10 students, driver injured as college bus overturns

Ten students of a private engineering college at Vadakkankulam in the district and the driver sustained injuries when a college bus overturned near Panagudi on Monday.

Police said the bus, carrying 35 students from various villages around Kalakkad, Ervadi and Valliyoor to the college, overturned when it was crossing Punniyavalanpuram near Panagudi. Ten students and bus driver Peter (35) of Keezha Uppoorani near Cheranmahadevi were injured in the accident.

First year students Siva Balakrishnan, who suffered a fracture in the leg, and Vivek, who sustained a head injury, were treated as inpatients. All the others were treated as outpatients.

Panagudi police are investigating.
