The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday expressed concern at the current situation in Andhra Pradesh and urged the Centre to make its position clear before things went out of control.
Senior party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu, who raised the issue during zero hour, said the Centre should take the House into confidence and consult parties.
Pointing to the volatile situation prevailing in the State since the Centre made the announcement that the process for creating Telangana would be set in motion, Mr. Naidu said he would not like to comment and complicate the situation, when tempers were running high.
“The government has to do its homework, prepare a road map by taking people into confidence, discuss with MPs and MLAs. People and students of the other two regions [Rayalaseema and Coastal Andhra] are now agitating… The government has to explain its thinking.”
Referring to the resignation by MLAs and two MPs, Mr. Naidu said the situation should not be allowed to get out of hand.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Prithviraj Chavan said the Centre shared Mr. Naidu’s concern and he would convey the sentiments to the Home Minister, who made a statement on Thursday in Parliament.
Rajiv Pratap Rudy of the BJP pointed to the four-day bandh called by the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha demanding for a Gorkhaland. The outfit had been making the demand for several decades, he said.
