The Bharatiya Janata Party national secretary and Lok Sabha MP from Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh, Varun Gandhi, said he believed in the politics of credibility and not vote banks.

If the credibility of the party is maintained, it would automatically draw votes. Emphasis should be on winning people's confidence, he said.

In an informal chat with journalists at the BJP headquarters in Lucknow on Wednesday, he said efforts should be made to take along those leaders who had served the BJP and the Jan Sangh but were now living in adverse circumstances.

Whenever he visited Lucknow, Mr. Gandhi said, he made it a point to visit party leaders whose economic condition was not sound. The Lok Sabha MP said efforts should be made on a unified approach.
