Opposition in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday demanded immediate tabling of the Ranganath Misra Commission report on socio-economic status of minorities and criticised the Centre for the “undue” delay. United Opposition said the report was available with a newspaper, as in the case of the Liberhan Commission report, while MPs still await its tabling.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Ali Anwar of JD-U said the government failed to table the Ranganath Misra Commission report along with the Action Taken Report (ATR) in Parliament, while the same has been published in a Hindi daily. “It has been two years since the report was submitted to the government but it has yet not been brought before the House,” he added.

Amar Singh of Samajwadi Party said the government formed committees to keep its reports in the archives, while Sitaram Yechury of CPI (M) said the delay in presenting the reports was not a healthy practice. Some Congress and NCP MPs also supported early tabling of such reports so that timely action could be taken.
