Though Goa is a small State considering its area, it has immense potential to become a hub of financial activities and centre of research and education riding on its strengths of higher literacy and socio-economic indicators, former Union Minister and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said on Friday.

He was addressing Goan legislators after inaugurating the Legislators Day here.

At the function organised by the Legislators Forum, Dr. Swamy was the chief guest and keynote speaker. He delivered a lecture on “How Goa can contribute in nation-building?”

He said the present century belonged to knowledge economy. Goa with its natural port and airport had tremendous potential to contribute to nation-building. This, Dr. Swamy said, would be possible if there were high standards of education, infrastructure for large manufacturing industry, free access to investors, creation of laboratories, research centres, and encouragement to beach science. Goa could become a centre of education, banking, airport and shipping. All this could be done by empowering legislators who had to work full time by accepting challenges. Dr. Swamy urged Goa to focus on medical tourism.
