Swabs of Badaun victims to be sent for DNA analysis

July 22, 2014 01:09 am | Updated 01:09 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Unable to exhume the bodies of the Badaun victims for a second round of post-mortem, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to send the belongings and vaginal swabs of the two girls to a Hyderabad laboratory for DNA analysis.

“The clothes and other personal belongings of the two victims were collected from their family members at the instance of the three-member medical board. The vaginal swabs earlier stored by the local doctor have also been collected and they would be sent to the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, Hyderabad, for DNA analysis,” said an official.

Owing to the rising water level of the Ganga, the agency has not been able to exhume the bodies so far.
