The Rajya Sabha on Monday revoked the suspension of four Samajwadi Party (SP) members. They were suspended for their unruly behaviour while protesting against the Women's Reservation Bill, passed by the House on March 9.
A government resolution for the revocation of the suspension of Veerpal Singh Yadav, Kamal Akhtar, Nand Kishore Yadav, Aamir Alam Khan was moved by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal after the question hour and adopted by the House. Taking the sense of the House into account, Deputy Chairman K. Rahman Khan announced the revocation of their suspension.
Three other members — Subhash Yadav (Rashtriya Janata Dal), Sabir Ali (Lok Jan Shakti Party) and Ejaz Ali (unattached) — were also suspended along with the SP members till the end of the current session. All the seven were marshalled out as they protested against the Constitutional Amendment Bill, providing for reservation of one-third seats to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies.
No mention of other members
No official reason was cited for the revocation of suspension. Also, there was no mention in the resolution about the three other suspended members.
The SP members met Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari on March 12.
