Suspected al-Qaeda operative sent to police custody

Suspected al-Qaeda operative Shauman Haq, alias Shami ur Rehman a British national of Bangladeshi origin was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi Police from Vikas Marg, in New Delhi on September 18.

Suspected al-Qaeda operative Shauman Haq, alias Shami ur Rehman a British national of Bangladeshi origin was arrested by the special cell of the Delhi Police from Vikas Marg, in New Delhi on September 18.

A suspected al-Qaeda operative, arrested from east Delhi, was sent to police custody till September 30 by a city court on Monday.

Shauman Haq, 27, was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Sidharth Sharma who handed over his custody to the special cell of Delhi police after the probe agency said he was required for custodial interrogation to unearth the larger conspiracy.

Haq was arrested near Vikas Marg on September 17 following a tip-off.

The police told the court that Haq was required to be confronted with various “incriminating” evidence recovered in the matter and to apprehend the other accused.
