Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj is leading an all-party parliamentary delegation to Sri Lanka from April 16 to 21 for exchange of views on the current political situation in the island nation and matters of mutual interest between New Delhi and Colombo.

Though the visit was planned some time ago, it assumes significance in the light of India's recent decision to vote for the U.S.-sponsored resolution, at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, stressing the need for an early political settlement to redress the grievances of Tamils and seeking accountability for alleged rights violations during the war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

Sri Lanka is peeved with India for backing the resolution despite its strong appeal not to do so.
