Suresh Reddy, the man India has chosen to send to Baghdad as its crisis manager, is no stranger to Iraq. Mr. Reddy was the first Indian Ambassador in Iraq after the U.S. invasion in 2003.
When he moved to Baghdad in 2011, he was responsible for rebuilding India’s ties in the country, beginning with a skeletal two-man team. Mr. Reddy also played a crucial role in organising the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to India in 2013, the first high-level bilateral engagement between the two countries in 38 years.
Mr. Reddy is in Baghdad to assist Ajay Kumar, the new Ambassador there, in coordinating with the Iraqi government and humanitarian agencies to facilitate the return of stranded Indians to the country.
