January 01, 2014 03:30 am | Updated May 13, 2016 06:33 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research is set to get a new head, with its Director-General Samir K. Brahmachari demitting office on Tuesday. Prof. Brahmachari attained superannuation on December 31, 2011, but his services were extended by two years.

He told The Hindu that taking forward the West Bengal government’s plan to rejuvenate the education system would be his immediate priority. He is heading a panel the government established in October for the purpose.

Official sources said a selection committee recommended the name of Suresh Das, Director of the CSIR’s National Institute for Inter-Disciplinary Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, to succeed him.
