A police sub-inspector has been suspended for indiscipline while on duty in Gujarat’s Surat district. A video of him dancing with a professional dancer and tossing currency notes in the air went viral, prompting the Surat police to act againt him.

M.C. Solanki (55), attached to the Dindoli police station was suspended Thursday for his behaviour, M.M. Anarwala, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I, Surat, told The Hindu .

The ‘cultural programme’ was organised in the Ramdevnagar locality of Surat in September. One of the attendees reportedly filmed the policeman while dancing and posted the video online.

“Mr. Solanki was invited to the programme. He was on duty and was wearing his uniform. He was not only dancing with the professional dancer, but was also tossing notes in their. The clip was aired on social networking sites as well as on television channels. It is wrong to toss notes in the air that way. The video was sending a wrong message to the public. So I decided to suspend him,” Mr. Anarwala said.

The departmental inquiry against Mr. Solanki is still underway and a decision on the punishment to be meted out to him will be taken on completion of the probe.
