Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj on Saturday said that the Supreme Court should find out who was the “fixer” behind the court-assisted settlement in the Bhopal Gas tragedy case that killed and maimed thousands of people.
Quoting a book, “Six Decades of Law, Politics and Diplomacy: Some Reminiscences and Reflections” by senior Supreme Court lawyer B. Sen, Ms. Swaraj said, “It revealed that when he (Sen) congratulated a lawyer in Washington on the victory in the case, he smiled and said we are fortunate to get a good fixer and walked away without entering into any further conversation.”
Ms. Swaraj demanded that the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognisance of the fact revealed by the writer that the court-assisted settlement was arrived at after getting a “good fixer” and find out who this fixer was.
She also demanded that the Centre should lodge an FIR against an unidentified person in this regard and investigate the matter.
Ms. Swaraj said she would raise the issue in Parliament during its forthcoming session.
