The Harkat-ul-Jihad, which has purportedly claimed responsibility for Wednesday's blast in the Delhi High Court complex, has threatened to target the Supreme Court and other major High Courts if the death sentence awarded to Afzal Guru, in the Parliament attack case, is not repealed.
An email containing this message was sent from harkatuljihadi2011@gmail.com to an electronic media group around 1.30 p.m., over two hours after the high-intensity blast.
“...Our demand is that Afzal Guru's death sentence be repealed immediately, else we would target major High Courts and the Supreme Court of India,” the mail said.
Although in the recent past, such emails were sent by the terror outfit, Indian Mujahideen, to own up responsibility for blasts in different parts of the country, including Delhi, the police are treading cautiously.
Authenticity
“We cannot take the email at its face value at this stage. A thorough investigation is necessary to establish its authenticity. The email service provider can be contacted to ascertain through which Internet Protocol (IP) address the e-mail account was created and email was sent,” said a police officer.
