The Hurriyat Conference on Friday said it will support talks between India and Pakistan if aimed at resolution of Kashmir issue in accordance to the wishes of the people of the state.
“We are desirous of peace... Kashmiris have been the torch-bearers of peace and communal harmony. But for peace, it is imperative that the long-standing Kashmir issue is addressed in accordance to the wishes and aspirations of the people of the state,” the Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said addressing a Friday congregation at Jamia Masjid in downtown city.
He said Kashmir issue and peace and prosperity in the sub-continent is inter-linked. “We are ready to extend our support at every level to both India and Pakistan if they take concrete measure to initiate comprehensive dialogue to address this problem.”
He further said violence is no solution to any issue.
“The best way to move forward on any issue is meaningful talks,” he said adding “if India and Pakistan initiates a composite dialogue for permanent resolution of Kashmir, Hurriyat would not hesitate in extending its full support to the process.
Referring to the Kashmiri Pandits, he said “We invite them to join the ongoing freedom struggle as our struggle is not area specific. We are seeking freedom for all parts of Jammu and Kashmir and its people irrespective of their religion, creed and cast.”
