Senior journalist Nalini Singh has said in her statement to the Delhi Police that Sunanda Pushkar had mentioned to her about taking Shashi Tharoor’s blame upon herself during the IPL controversy.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of Sunanda spoke to Ms. Singh on Friday.

On January 20, 2014, Ms. Singh had told the SDM that she had spoken to Sunanda on the phone a day before her death and she had expressed dismay at Mr. Tharoor’s alleged affair with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar. “I was examined as Sunanda had telephoned me on the day she died,” said Ms. Singh. She said Sunanda wanted to talk to her regarding the IPL and quoted her as saying that she had “taken the flak for him [Tharoor].”

The IPL controversy broke in early 2010.
