‘Summer at Doon’ to mould young leaders

April 21, 2014 12:15 am | Updated May 21, 2016 12:29 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Doon School will host ‘Summer at Doon’ , a leadership programme, from June 1 to 15. The two-week residential course is open to boys and girls of Standard 9 and 10 from schools all over India and abroad.

Supported by Aspire, the course offers students an opportunity to learn the art, science and practice of leadership. Course elements include team work, adventure and social service.

Doon School board member Vivek Pandit, a director at McKinsey, developed the initiative along with the Headmaster, school management, Aspire, and a committee of Doon alumni and board members. “Summer at Doon is our best value-based leadership course yet, and brings to participants the best of Doon’s and Aspire’s programmes,” said Amit Bhatia, the founder and chairman of Aspire. Headmaster Peter McLaughlin said, “Young people are looking for clear leadership at the national and international level from adults in society, but see a woeful lack of intelligent, decisive and ethical leadership in practice.”

Doon School masters will lead the programme. Guest lecturers will include Lieutenant Abhilash Tomy, a commander in the Indian Navy and the first Indian to complete a solo, unassisted, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe under sails, and Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to climb the Mount Everest.
