The Chhattisgarh police on Thursday took 11 persons into custody from various villages of Sukma district for “questioning” in connection with last month’s Maoist attack in which 25 CRPF personnel were killed.

“We have apprehended 11 suspects from Sukma. They are being questioned,” Abhishek Meena, Superintendent of Police, Sukma district, told The Hindu .

“They [suspects] belong to various villages between Chintalnar and Chintagufa. Some of them have accepted that they were involved in it [the April 24 Maoist attack on the CRPF] and they are also giving details about it. It will take some time to bring them to Sukma from Chintalnar and Chintagufa,” the SP added.

However, P. Sundar Raj, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dantewada range), said the suspects had not been “detained.” “They are only being interrogated. If there is any evidence of involvement, they will be arrested,” the DIG said.
