Suits all parties to not probe CBI chief: Prashant Bhushan

November 30, 2014 01:49 am | Updated 01:49 am IST - Bengaluru:

Lawyer and Aam Aadmi Party leader Prashant Bhushan on Saturday rapped the government for not suspending CBI Director Ranjit Sinha for “abusing his office” to help those accused in the 2G spectrum scam.

Although three months have lapsed since evidence emerged of Mr. Sinha “helping” those implicated in the 2G spectrum and coal block allocation scams, the government has not begun serious investigations, he told reporters.

Mr. Bhushan, who recently lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Branch of Delhi Government against the CBI Director, said: “Successive governments have found it convenient to have weak, pliable and corrupt officers as head of the CBI, people who can be trusted not to investigate. It suits all political parties.”

Even the Opposition leader, “who belongs to the Congress, wants a weak candidate because the party is facing the maximum number of cases relating to corruption”, he said.

While Mr. Sinha is due to retire in three days, the government has not yet released a shortlist for the new CBI Director, he said. Mr. Bhushan demanded transparency in the process of appointing the new CBI head. CBI should be removed from the control of the government and put under the control of Lokpal, he said.
