: Minimum temperatures stayed below the freezing point in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh today as one person died due to the cold in Uttarakhand.
In Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, night temperatures also settled one to three degrees below normal at many places in the region, the Met office said.
In Dehradun, where the minimum temperature was recorded at 8.4 degrees Celsius, a man died due to the cold, official sources said.
The upper reaches in the Himalayas continued to experience sub-zero temperatures with Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region having night temperatures of minus 8.4 and minus 3.8 degrees respectively. The maximum temperature recorded at Leh was 3.8 degrees, while it was 3.6 degrees in Kargil.
However, temperatures rose a bit in Kashmir Valley, including in Srinagar, with the mercury settling between zero and three degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 2.3 degrees, four degrees above normal, the Met office said. Night temperatures recorded at Qazigund, Pahalgam and Kupwara also jumped by several degrees and settled between zero and 1.5 degrees, it said.
In Himachal Pradesh, the cold desert region of Lahaul-Spiti experienced freezing cold with the mercury being recorded at minus 5.2 degrees in Keylong, the district headquarters.
