Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Wednesday said the best way to put an end to regionalism rhetoric was to stop commenting on it. “The best way to put an end to this thing (regional rhetoric) is to stop commenting on it,” Ms. Kumar told reporters, when asked about the Shiv Sena and MNS’s campaigning for ‘Marathi Manoos’ in Mumbai.

However, she said all citizens were free to live anywhere in the country.

“All Indians are patriots”, Ms. Kumar, who inaugurated the 74th conference of presiding officers of legislative bodies from all over the country, said here.

When asked whether organisations like Shiv Sena and the MNS should be banned, she refused to comment.

On Jaya Prada’s Parliament membership after her expulsion from Samajwadi Party, the Lok Sabha Speaker remarked, “Let the papers come to my table.” According to practise, the actor-turned politician would continue to remain a member of the Lok Sabha, she said.
