The former Telecom Minister, A. Raja, facing trial in the 2G spectrum scam case, has been allowed by a Delhi court to go to Tamil Nadu for a month. He made the plea after the special CBI court deferred a scheduled recording of statements of the accused to April 4.
The public prosecutor has no objection to the prayer. Accordingly, Mr. Raja is permitted to visit Tamil Nadu from today [Monday] evening till the night of April 3...”, said judge O.P. Saini.
The court was to start recording the statements on Monday but had to defer the exercise as questions were still being drafted.
“In view of the voluminous record of the case, perusal of the file is still not complete and, as such, questions to be put to the accused under Section 313 Cr.PC could not be prepared and drafting of questions is in progress,” the court said.
On November 27, 2013, it concluded recording of the statements of CBI witnesses after the deposition of the agency’s Superintendent of Police and chief investigating officer, Vivek Priyadarshi, got over.
The court has recorded the statements of 153 CBI witnesses.
