The State government on Friday welcomed the transfer of the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, P.D. Dinakaran to Sikkim.

Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Suresh Kumar hoped that a new chapter would be ushered in the State once J.S. Kehar took charge as new Chief Justice.

Mr. Suresh Kumar urged the legal fraternity in the State to forget the November 2009 incident during which some advocates had gone on a rampage in the High Court demanding the transfer of Justice Dinakaran. President of the Advocates Association of Bangalore (AAB) K.N. Putte Gowda said the association did not have anything personal against Justice Dinakaran. It did not want a “tainted” judge to head the judiciary in the State.

Welcome sign

Advocate-General Ashok Haranahalli, said it was a welcome sign that a working Chief Justice would now head the High Court.

He said work in the High Court was affected after Justice Dinakaran decided to refrain from presiding over judicial work.

The Forum for Judicial Accountability, Karnataka, welcomed the transfer and hoped that the High Court would once again regain its stature as among the best courts of the country with the arrival of new justice.
