Spying is part of Congress DNA: BJP

April 11, 2015 12:14 am | Updated April 02, 2016 03:19 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday reacted sharply to reports that the Jawaharlal Nehru government had allegedly spied on the kin of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as was revealed by two declassified Intelligence Bureau files.

Alleging that “snooping was a part of [the] Congress party’s DNA,” Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, “It happened under the Indira Gandhi government and as recently as in 2010 there were reports of the then Finance Minister being snooped upon.” However, when questioned about a woman put under surveillance in Gujarat under the then Modi government, Ms. Sitharaman said a commission had been set up to probe the charge and the victim had said there was no snooping on her.
