In the wake of tough internal security challenges, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has fast-tracked the setting up of a Central Detective Training School (CDTS) that will help sharpen the intelligence gathering capabilities of Central and State agencies.
The school was formally opened last year under the aegis of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) and has been operating from the CBI headquarters here.
The MHA has sanctioned over Rs.65 crore for setting up the CDTS, while 9 acres of land had been acquired at a cost of over Rs. 2 crore in Ghaziabad.
“Ghaziabad was chosen due to its proximity to Delhi where all major intelligence and Central security agencies are based.
It will also help in better coordination with Central departments and State governments,” a senior MHA official said.
“In the ever-changing internal and global security scenario, the challenge is to keep our security agencies updated with the latest techniques of intelligence gathering, besides being informed about the geopolitical changes and security scenario, particularly in our neighbourhood,” he said.
A one-of-its-kind institution in South Asia, the school would impart training in latest investigation techniques, lay special focus on equipping trainees with skills on collecting digital evidence and improving their proficiency in forensics, the official noted.
