People clashed with police in the Sopore and Baramulla townships of north Kashmir on Wednesday during a protest march against the drowning of a youth, who fell into a river while fleeing from security forces.

Locals took to the streets and shouted slogans in support of their demand for action against the policemen responsible for “forcing” Zuber-ul-Hassan Bhat (20) to jump into the river on Tuesday, official sources said.

Sporadic clashes occurred in the city and adjoining areas, where a shutdown was called to protest the youth's death.
