In a few months, the Army will be equipped with speed boats to patrol the Pangong lake along the Sino-Indian border in Ladakh region.

The Army's quest to procure 17 speed boats that can endure harsh climatic conditions at the lake situated at an altitude of over 14,000 ft. came to a conclusion with the Defence Ministry giving the go-ahead for procuring them on a fast track basis.

Sources in the Ministry said an agreement has been signed with Florida-based Tampa Yatch Manufacturing.

The first consignment is expected to reach the venue within six months and one each arriving at regular intervals.

The sources said the cost of each boat is around Rs. 2.50 crore. The company makes military boats with night-vision equipment and other electronic gadgets and also offers custom-made boats.

Last year, the Ministry floated a request for proposal for these boats since the Army was patrolling the lake with two old assault boats.
