The Chandrayaan-1 mission of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will receive the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics' (AIAA) Space Systems Award for 2009.

A press release from the AIAA says that M. Annadurai, Project Director, Chandrayaan-1, will accept the award on behalf of the team, which is being honoured for its outstanding accomplishments in the design, development, launch and operations of India's first scientific mission to the moon, operating beyond the earth's orbit.

The award will be given on September 16 at the Pasadena Convention Centre in California, U.S.

The AIAA is the world's largest technical society dedicated to the global aerospace profession.
