Senior Samajwadi Party leaders, including leader of opposition in the assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav, were detained when they were on their way to trouble-torn Bareilly town, where curfew has been clamped following clashes between communities.

Apprehending their visit may create trouble in the already tense town, the SP leaders, Shivpal Yadav, Ram Naresh Yadav and Dayaram Prajapati (both MLCs) were detained in Fatehgarh area when they were going to Bareilly.

The SP leaders have presently been kept at the PWD inspection house.

Meanwhile, SP workers led by former MP Chote Lal Yadav staged an agitation before the inspection house in protest against the arrests and squatted on the PWD trisection raising anti-government slogans.
