More than 10 supporters belonging to the ‘Indian Congress Party USA,' assembled outside the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center here on Saturday and wanted to offer prayers inside the hospital's chapel, but were denied permission by authorities.

There has been speculation in media that 64-year-old Ms. Gandhi has been admitted to the Cancer Centre, but it has not been confirmed. The Congress has declined to disclose her ailment and the nature of the surgery. The party has also not disclosed the hospital or the country where the surgery took place, citing request from the family that her health was a personal matter and others had to respect the family's privacy.
