Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul met the family members of the December 16, 2012 gang rape victim at their residence at Dwarka here on Saturday. They offered their condolences and spent close to 35 minutes with the family.

On December 30, when the body of the 23-year-old physiotherapy student was brought here from Singapore, Ms. Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were present at the airport. She also interacted with the girl’s parents who were accompanying the body.

Earlier on December 29, Ms. Gandhi, in a televised address to those protesting against the barbaric incident, said she shared their concern over the growing incidents of crime against women.

Stating that the girl’s death would not go in vain, Ms. Gandhi assured them that all measures would be taken for protection of women and swift action taken against those involved in the crime.
