Solicitor-General of India Rohinton Nariman on Monday resigned from his post. His resignation, said highly placed sources, came after difference of opinion between him and Union Law Minister Ashawani Kumar on certain issues.
Mr. Nariman was appointed as the second most senior law official of the country on July 23, 2011 following the resignation of Gopal Subramanium on July 14, 2011.
Mr. Nariman was designated as a senior advocate at the age of 37 in 1993 when the then Chief Justice of India M.N. Venkatachaliah amended the rules for designating a lawyer as a senior advocate by reducing the minimum age limit of 45.
Additional Solicitor-General Mohan Parasaran is one of the contenders for the SG post, the sources said.
