Six persons, including two civilians, a soldier and three militants, were killed on Friday in a fidayeen strike in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, close to India-Pakistan international border.
Sources said three gunmen in combat fatigues hijacked a Bolero at Dayala Chak, about 45 km from here, on the Jammu-Delhi National Highway when the vehicle was going towards Radha Swami Satsang Bias around 5 a.m.
The gunmen held the driver, Jeet Singh, captive and opened fire at the other four persons in the car, killing one of them, Tarseem Singh, on the spot. The three other injured persons were later rushed to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu.
The hijacked Bolero then headed towards an Army camp in the Janglote area. The gunmen tried to enter the camp through its back entry, but alert sentries opened fire. In the encounter that followed for 10 hours, the three gunmen were killed by the troops. Mr. Singh was found killed beside the abandoned vehicle with a piece of cloth in his mouth and his throat slit. One soldier also died in the gun battle while three others were injured.
