There does not seem to be an early end to the travails of the people of north India, who have been going through a harrowing cold wave condition for over a week now.
According to the latest forecast of the India Meteorological Department, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect north-west India on Tuesday and Wednesday.
This, it said, could cause light to moderate rainfall at a few places over Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and fairly widespread, moderate to rather heavy snowfall, over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
But, there could be a thin silver line to the dark clouds, particularly for travellers. Large scale dense fog is unlikely over the Indo-Gangetic plains during the next three days, though some isolated pockets may experience fog/ shallow fog conditions during morning hours.
There could also be some respite for those who have to go out in the night. Minimum temperature over the region is likely to increase by two to four degrees during the next 48 hours, “leading to abatement of the cold wave conditions.”
The day time, on the other hand, is likely to remain as miserable, as, according to the forecast, “the cold day conditions are likely to continue in some parts.”
Delhi
For Delhi, in particular, the IMD has come up with the following forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the sky could be partly cloudy with the possibility of rain or thunderstorm, with the minimum temperature could be better at nine degrees and the maximum at 17 degrees.
On Wednesday, there could be light rain, with the minimum temperature a further better at 11 degrees and the maximum at 16 degrees.
The IMD also predicted that isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over peninsular, central and adjoining east India mainly on Tuesday and Wednesday due to confluence of winds.
