Smart City scheme: State ministers meet on Sept. 12

The Union government has called a conference of State Ministers on September 12 in New Delhi to take a final call on the programme of Smart Cities.

Disclosing this after meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa at the Secretariat in Chennai, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu told reporters on Friday that the project was in an "advanced stage of conceptualisation." Before finalising the project, the Minister said he wanted to have the views of States and this was why the conference.

During the 20-minute-long meeting, the Chief Minister requested the Union government to include 12 cities in the State including Chennai under the programme.
