Tripura High Court Bar Association has demanded cancellation of license of an advocate who recently came down heavily on Chief Justice Deepak Kumar Gupta. In a full house general meeting on Monday the bar members also urged the advocate general to set off contempt reference against the erring advocate.

The resolutions of the general meeting were unanimous. Sujit Dutta, during a press conference on June 24 alleged that Chief Justice Gupta had indulged in financial irregularities.

The high court bar association found the allegations baseless, intentional and malicious and amounted to undermine the Chief Justice as well as the High Court. It demanded that the Bar Council of Tripura should take measure to cancel practise license of Advocate Sujit Dutta and urged Advocate General to move criminal contempt charge against him for ‘misconduct’.

“Sujit Dutta has the habit to raise bogus allegations against the judges of highe court as well as lower courts. Tripura bar association removed him some 12 years ago on charge of misconduct and the high court bar turned down his requests for membership”, former high court bar President Arun Kanti Bhowmik told The Hindu .

He said all members of the bar irrespective of their ideological affiliations unanimously condemned Mr.Dutta and adopted resolutions. “We hope the bar council and the advocate general would soon initiate actions against him”, Advocate Bhowmik stated.
