Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Pakistan saying that it had a direct impact on Kashmir and “stability in Pakistan means stability in Jammu and Kashmir”.

At a convention of his party’s National Conference in Mendhar area of Poonch district, Mr. Abdullah urged the International community to help improve the situation in Pakistan. It is important to see that the violent situation in “our neighbouring country improves”.

He said the resolution of the Kashmir issue was important and his government and party could not shrug it off. Issues pertaining to water, electricity, food, health and education sectors are priority but at the same time, “we cannot ignore the Kashmir issue and its resolution”, he said. Mr Abdullah said his government was working towards facilitating the dialogue process by creating a conducive atmosphere. “We are working on the ground for dialogue between New Delhi and Hurriyat and hopefully they are responding to it,” he said. This process, he said, will help in resolving the Kashmir issue.

The Chief Minister also favoured dialogues between India and Pakistan. “We are in favour of the Indo-Pak composite dialogue and want the internal situation in Pakistan to settle soon and peace to prevail. We also want the relations between the two neighbours to improve fast, borders to remain peaceful and tension free, and trade and travel across the LoC to expand further and become more easy and smooth”, he said, adding that his government would actively strive for it.

Maintaining that peace was a must for a sustained and fruitful dialogue and commitment was needed from all the sides and players. “While we have sensitised the administration at all levels to be quick to public needs and responsive towards accomplishing the works entrusted to officers and government functionaries, people have to play their important roles of monitoring the successful implementation of projects and actively helping the government in its efforts of restoring and maintaining peace,” he said.

He said the just announced employment package will benefit the youth of the State and “we are open to strengthen it further”. Mr. Abdullah stressed upon the joint efforts for the development and welfare of the society as a whole. “Every member of the society is equally important for us and welfare of all areas, regions and communities without any consideration is our motto and trait,” he asserted.

He reiterated that his government is committed to fulfilling all the promises made to the public and measures are already afoot in this regard. “Public is my strength and their welfare my mission. I am endeavouring in this direction with firm determination and keen interest,” he asserted, and asked people to continue their support to him and his government. “This adds to our energy and determination for public service,” he said.
