August 01, 2010 02:25 am | Updated 02:25 am IST - SINGAPORE:

Singapore Foreign Minister George Yeo will pay a five-day visit to India from Sunday for talks with External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna, and participate in a meeting of the Nalanda Mentor Group (NMG).

Mr. Yeo is a member of the NMG in his personal capacity. The members of the NMG, led by Nobel Economics Laureate Amartya Sen, are scheduled to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Announcing Mr. Yeo's visit, the Singapore Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the NMG, set up by the Indian government to help conceptualise the revival of Nalanda University, would now hold its sixth meeting. The first was held in Singapore in July 2007.

The statement said that the meeting would “discuss the implementation framework and operations of the proposed [revival of the] Nalanda University.”
