‘Shocking that the perpetrators of Jallianwala Bagh were consulted on Operation Bluestar’

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday demanded an unconditional apology from the British government for secretly assisting the Indian government plan the army attack, code named “Operation Bluestar,” on the Golden Temple in June 1984, in which many innocent pilgrims were also killed.

Interacting with reporters after presiding over a “sangat darshan” programme in Bathinda, he said both governments were equally responsible for hurting the religious sentiments of Punjabis, particularly Sikhs. “The Sikhs would never forgive them for this sin against humanity,” an official release quoting him said.

Mr. Badal was reacting to the inquiry report tabled in the British House of Commons on Tuesday, in which the British government admitted that the United Kingdom’s role in Operation Bluestar was limited to military advice.

The report revealed that a British military adviser had surveyed the shrine between February 8 and 17, along with an Indian special group. The adviser had recommended army action as the last resort to flush out armed militants. Mr. Badal said the entire nation was shocked to learn that Prime Minister Indira Gandhi chose the perpetrators of Jallianwala Bagh to seek advice on planning an army assault on the Golden Temple.”

If Mrs Gandhi sought Britain's assistance for Operation BlueStar, forget about getting an apology for Jalianwalabhag.

Comments about Sikhs and their contribution by majority Hindus are highly provocative and white lies. Sikhs are less than two percent of the population and they made more than 70 % of the sacrifices for the freedom of India . Remember 1965 and 1971 wars with Pakistan. Communal Hindus have no stomach for truth. They are intolerant of minorities. The biggest democracy kills minorities and treats them as second class citizens. Killing citizens with the connivance of the police is cowardice. How many Hindus were killed after the death of Rajiv Gandhi? Shame on bigots. Hindus finished of Budhism from India.
Read history and learn from it.

Our country is the land of the Mahatma. Gandhiji lived for us. He said
"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong."
We need to let the world know that we can forgive and that we will
forgive. We need to break away from living in the past and light a bright
future for the next generation.

Yes. Badal should ask all Sikhs to leave Britain and return to Punjab.

In the first place, why should there be arms and terrorists in a place of worship? We are not showing anger and concern on the right people. I think taking military action on religious places that support or harbor anti-national elements is a right thing. I am a Hindu. If, God forbid, anti-national elements are housed in Tirumala, a sacred Hindu temple, I am all for military action on the temple. I do not, however, support any of what happened after expunging the anti-national elements from the sacred Golden Temple.

Sikhs should also not forget this Badal for conspiring with the enemy to attack the Golden Temple. He was instrumental in extending an invititation to the Hindu Government to attack.

Badal's comments belies the sikhs position ever since the sikh regiment was found in Indian Army. Except the notable Bhagat Singh, sikhs didn't support the freedom struggle in India and were considered loyal to erstwhile british rulers. (the large sikh community at UK holds the truth).

Sikhs have to come out and spell their true patriotism to India, a country which always have extended its courtesy and included them in all spheres. Stop burning the Indian flags and disrupting Independence Day celebrations. Stop complaining to other countries about India, when your community lives in India and enjoys all the priviliges. Stop immortalizing the anti nationals and erecting memorials inside the golden temple complex.

India has other states apart from you and people to look after. As long as you make heroes out of the operation blue star (bhindranwale and their likes) India and its people will never forgive you. Call your community to come back from UK if you are real patriots, I dare.

Shriman Badalji,Sat sri akal.
Sikhism was in danger and became septic due to extremists jingoism for separate state which is not viable. Why refuge was taken in the most sacred place for anti national activities. By the way the operation was executed by another patriotic sardar. For which the basest betrayal was done in assassinating an unarmed person that too a lady.

Very good confused general statement. If this is true, all the sikhs in UK should come
back or at least, in future no sikhs should make efforts to migrate. Either of them are
going to happen, but when our job is give statements, we can talk what ever we
want.

Who will own responsibility and apologize for the horrible chain of
events leading to the invasion of Golden Temple? The terrorists first
destroyed the sanctity of the temple by invading and hiding there with
ammunition. The country was at edge and tired of everyday news of
terrorism and killing of innocents. Innocent people were pulled out
of buses and trains and killed cold blooded everyday. The country
watched helplessly. The decision to invade the temple by army was the
right thing to do. The reaction to Gandhi murder and the unfortunate
consequences was only natural, not premeditated.

Sad to see that politician has nothing to express but history. Instead of being forward looking
they keep diving into the dark past just to keep their political momentum intact on this
emotional foundation of set back.
