An 11-year-old gang-rape victim from Rajasthan’s Sikar district, who has been battling for life in Jaipur’s J.K. Lone Hospital since August last, was referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Friday.
The child hails from a poor Muslim family, which moved to Sikar last year from Darbhanga in Bihar. Her family, comprising her mother and two sisters, makes a living by doing odd jobs in and around the Sikar industrial area.
In August last year, she was abducted from the Sikar bus stand by five men who raped her and then dumped her in a village 14 km away.
Even after undergoing five major and several other minor surgical procedures, the girl is yet to recover.
On January 21, doctors at the J.K. Lone hospital wrote to the government about referring her to the AIIMS.
Last month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called his Rajasthan counterpart, Ashok Gehlot, to inquire about the girl’s health.
The State government has granted her a medical assistance of Rs. 5 lakh and her case is being tried in a fast track court.
