Sidhu insisted I contest from Amritsar, says Jaitley

March 16, 2014 08:25 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:12 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

A day after BJP leader Navjot Singh Sidhu announced he would not contest the Lok Sabha polls from any constituency other than Amritsar, which he currently represents, senior party leader Arun Jaitley thanked the former cricketer for helping him arrive at a decision to contest from there. Mr. Jaitley has been chosen as the BJP’s candidate from Amritsar.

Mr. Sidhu tried to downplay his disappointment by claiming that Mr. Jaitley was his “guru” and was happy to vacate the seat for him. However, his displeasure was evident from his refusal to contest from either Delhi or Kurukshetra.

On Sunday, Mr. Jaitely said: “I must express my gratitude and thanks to Mr. Sidhu for helping me to make up my mind. Navjot and my relationship is much more than political.”
