The variety entertainment reality show, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega has got Sony TV into trouble with the Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry on Friday issuing a show-cause notice to the channel for showing a participant putting a snake into one of his nostrils and bringing it out from his mouth, and then repeating the drill in the reverse order.
Sony TV, which has already been issued four show-cause notices in the past for violation of the Programme/Advertising Codes, has been given 15 days to explain why action should not be taken against it for violating the Downlinking Guidelines.
According to the notice, the programme offended good taste and appeared to inflict cruelty on snakes.
Further, the apprehension is that the show may lead viewers to try the tricks and affect young children.
“As such they are not suitable for unrestricted public exhibition,” the notice states.
Also, as per the guidelines for Certification of Films under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, it is necessary to ensure that scenes showing cruelty to, or abuse of, animals are not presented needlessly.
