Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Sunday underwent a surgery for a lung ailment at a hospital here.

The 71-year-old Congress leader was admitted to the Breach Candy hospital on Saturday night, sources close to him said.

Details of his ailment were not immediately known, but the sources said he would be discharged in a day or two.

“Shinde would be attending the Monsoon Session of Parliament,” they said.

However, it was not known when he would be leaving for Delhi.

“It was a minor operation,” the sources said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shinde’s daughter Praniti, a Congress MLA, said that her father was doing well after the surgery.

The senior Congress leader had met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Secretary Jayant Banthia and other senior government officials on Saturday and also attended an Iftar party hosted by Chavan at the Haj House.

He had also participated in a function at the National Sports Club of India in Worli.
