Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency.

Mr. Shinde filed his nomination papers at the collectorate here in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and NCP president Sharad Pawar.

As Pawar is not contesting the Lok Sabha election from Madha (since he is elected to the Rajya Sabha), former Deputy Chief Minister Vijaysinh Mohite—Patil has thrown his hat in the ring.

Mr. Mohite—Patil also filed his nomination papers from the Madha constituency.

The leaders later addressed a rally in Solapur.
