Peter Mukejea, who has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for alleged involvement in the Sheena Bora murder case, underwent a polygraph test on Saturday.
The test was conducted at Delhi’s Central Forensic Science Laboratory in the presence of CBI officials, after Peter gave his consent. “Preliminary findings have suggested that his answers to some questions were deceptive,” said an official, adding that Peter would be produced before a Mumbai court as his custody ends on Monday.
The CBI decided to put Peter through the lie-detection test as he had been giving contradictory statements and evasive replies on several issues.
The agency, which is probing a possible financial angle as the motive behind Sheena’s murder, suspects that Peter and his wife Indrani Mukerjea siphoned off Rs. 900 crore from their jointly-run media venture 9X Media Private Limited.
For the purpose, Indrani had allegedly opened an HSBC account in Singapore or Hong Kong, in the name of Sheena Bora. The couple floated several companies during 2006-07 and invested about Rs.900 crore in them. An internal audit of 9X Media also revealed instances of misallocation and siphoning off of huge amounts of funds by Peter and Indrani in nine firms having share holding as on March 31, 2009.
“There is a huge transaction and siphoning off of money and this money might have gone to Singapore and various other places,” submitted the CBI before a Mumbai court earlier this week.
