Weeks ahead of the budget, Shaktikanta Das, a Tamil Nadu batch IAS officer, has taken charge as Revenue Secretary replacing Rajiv Takru.

Mr. Takru, a Gujarat cadre civil servant, who was Revenue Secretary since March this year has been posted as Secretary in the Ministry of DONER.

Mr. Das, 1980 batch officer, was earlier holding the post of Secretary, Department of Fertilizers in Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers.

This is the first high-level bureaucratic re-jig in the Finance Ministry since the Narendra Modi-led government took over three weeks ago.

The Finance Ministry, which is preparing Modi government’s first budget, has Arvind Mayaram as Finance Secretary, R. P. Wattal as Expenditure Secretary, Ravi Mathur as Disinvestment Secretary and G. S. Sandhu as Financial Services Secretary.

The budget is likely to be presented early next month.
