Will the quick trial and maximum punishment send a deterrent message?
Yes
No
Can't say

The award of death penalty to a rape case is myopic and regressive. If death penalty becomes the norm then the rapists will not have any reason to spare the victim once the rape has been committed for murder cannot give a harsher punishment. Also, such a penalty will not have any bearing on the violence or the trauma experienced by the victim.Death penalty might be a deterrent in the short term but what is actually required is a radical shift in our perception towards the opposite sex. We need to realize that a substantial number of rapes are done by those who are 'known' to the victim. It happens due to the objectification of women. The psyche of the rapists must be studied to understand what triggers rape. This will lead to preventive measures.Only then will rape be reduced.

Quick verdicts and stern punishments are the best responses possible for such a crime. But nevertheless, these are reactive responses after the crime is committed. The long term approach should be preventing such a crime by strong administration and social awareness. However, the fast rail in this case is appreciated and hence I give a strong YES to such punishments.

In fact the standing punishment for any rape case should be death sentence. Rape is worse than Murder. Murder can have various motives and the murderer always need not be a harmful person for society, hence he may be allowed to live. But rape is only for physical pleasure which is too animalistic and hence the rapist is a harmful person for the society; so he deserves only death.

What we gained so far by lenient judgment. At least max.
Punishment is OK some more time in the present rise of rape
cases.

Yes. i think it is the high time to send a strong message across the
nation that India, well known as "Bharat-Maata" continues its culture
of respecting & protecting women. Development of the Nation is not just
judged by the PSLV C-24 satellite launch but also for the safety &
diginity of its people.
